Qualifying for a Diploma / Degree
To qualify for a Degree, a student is expected to fulfill the following conditions:
- Be regularly enrolled in a Diploma / Associate Degree / Degree programme of the University College.
- Meet all the University College’s and departmental conditions for the award of the Diploma/ Degree.
- Pass all the registered Courses in the registered Programme of study
- Pass all the registered Courses within the maximum period of duration for that programme.
- Has accumulated a minimum of 120 Credits
Examinations
Exams Committee
This Committee shall regulate the conduct of all examinations and the award of Diploma / Degree.
Eligibility for Examinations
Attendance at lectures, tutorials, industrial /field trips, practical, and the execution of all other assignments approved by the University College are mandatory.
A student who does not satisfy all departmental requirements for any course will not be allowed to take an examination in the course.
Forms of Examination / Assessments
The evaluation of students performance shall be by Assignment (both Individual/Group) and Exams (both Mid and End of Semester Exams)
Weighing of Examination
Semester assessments are weighed as follows:
- Individual Assignment - 10%
- Mid Semester Exams - 30%
- Group Assignment - 10%
- End of Semester Exams - 50%
- Total - 100%
Deferment of Examination:
A. On ground of ill-health: A student who has satisfied all the requirements for eligibility, but is unable to take the end of semester examination on ground of ill-health, shall be allowed to defer the particular exams and take them at the next offering after applying and submitting approved medical certificate to the Academic Affairs
B. On ground other than ill-health: In cases of deferment other than ill-health, an application shall be made to the Academic Affairs for consideration. It shall be the responsibility of the student to satisfy the Academic Office beyond reasonable doubt why he/ she wishes to defer the examination.
In all cases of defer of examination, the applicant shall obtain written permission from the Academic Affairs before leaving or deferring.
C. Declaration of Result : The Exams Committee shall make recommendations to the Academic Affairs for the confirmation of exams results. Published result for all examinations shall be on the official notice board before the commencement of the next semester.
D. Failure in Examination: Attendance at the University College’s examination is compulsory. A candidate who fails to turn up for an examination without satisfactory explanation or official written permit shall be deemed to have obtained an F in the paper.
The candidate who fails in an examination is permitted to resit for the examination at a fee. Candidate who is unable to resit examination without a reasonable cause after finishing the program at the University College shall be deemed to have failed the examination and shall not qualify to be awarded a Diploma or Degree. Resit exams apply to end of semester examinations only.
Confirmation of Award
The University College’s affiliate institution (Akamai University) shall be the final decision body in the Awarding of Diploma/Associate Degree/Degree to qualifying candidates (External Diplomas /Degrees). Local diploma will however be subjected to the University College’s Exams Committee and the Academic Affairs for awards.
Cancellation of Awards
The Exams Committee, the Academic Affairs and Akamai University may withdraw an award of a Diploma or Degree including the Associate Degree for the following reasons:
- Not meeting admission requirements
- Impersonation
- Examination malpractice
Petitions
Students with genuine complaints regarding their results shall lodge official complaints with the Examinations Committee using the appropriate and approved channels of communication. A candidate who requires a review of an examination result shall apply to the exams committee by mail: ambassadorsexamscommitee@ymail.com for consideration.
Instructions to Examination Candidates.
- A candidate shall not be admitted to the University Colleges examination if he/she owes the College or is under suspension or has been dismissed from the University College.
- A candidate for the College’s examination must have attended lectures regularly.
- Every candidate must provide a proof of identification before being allowed into an examination Hall.
- No candidate shall enter the Examination Hall until has been invited or requested to do so.
- All exams candidate must comply with instructions given by the invigilator
- Unauthorized items shall not be permitted in the Examination Hall. Authorized items are pen, pencil, eraser, and any other item as may be specified by the University College’s Exams Committee
- All other items shall be provided by the University College. No candidate shall be admitted to the Examination Hall later than thirty minutes (30mins) after the commencement of the examination.
- No candidate shall leave the Examination Hall within the first thirty minutes (30mins) after the commencement of the Examination.
- Communication between candidates during examination is absolutely forbidden.
- A Candidate may attract the attention of the invigilator by raising a hand.
- Smoking or drinking of alcoholic beverages are not allowed in the examination room
- Candidates may leave the examination room temporarily to visit the toilet, and only with the expressed permission of the invigilator who will then accompany him/her.
- A candidate who finishes an Examination ahead of time may leave the Examination room after surrendering his/her answer booklets and will not have the option of returning to the Examination room.
- A candidate who has completed an examination which is still in progress, ahead of time, shall not be seen in the vicinity of the examination hall.
Location of Examination
The location of Examination shall be specified in the Examination time-table.
Examination Offence
Any of the following actions on the part of a candidate shall constitute a punishable Examination offence:
- Refusal to comply with instructions given by the invigilator.
- Possession of articles such as books , notes or other unauthorized materials both electronic or manual
- Making reference to articles mentioned in (ii)
- Any form of communication with other candidates while Examination is in progress
- Eating in the Hall
- Drinking in the Hall.
Any candidate who commits any offence while the Examination is in progress shall be immediately barred from continuing with the Examination and all paper/ the evidence, if any, handled over to the Exams Committee through the invigilator.
Any offence or act of misconduct during an Examination shall be documented and reported by the invigilator to the Examinations Coordinator not later than one (1) hour after the completion of that particular examinations paper.
The outcome of any investigation into such acts of misconduct shall be made available to the Registrar through the Examinations Coordinator and appropriate sanctions to be imposed by the University College’s Committee.
A Grade Z shall be awarded to a candidate whenever it is established that he had attempted to gain an unfair advantage in an Examination. In such a situation, candidate shall be debarred from taking University College’s Examination either for a stated period or indefinitely or expelled from the College
Sanctions
Sanctions shall be imposed for the breach of Examination Regulations. These may be one or more of the following
- Reprimand
- Suspension from the University College’s Examination
- Suspension from the University College
- Withdrawal from the University College
- Award of Grade Z
